Blepharoplasty and other oculoplastic procedures can be performed under general anaesthesia or conscious sedation, depending on the procedure and your individual circumstances.
The appropriate anaesthetic approach will depend on the type and extent of surgery, your medical history and your preferences.

ANAESTHETIC OPTIONS
GENERAL ANAESTHETIC OR CONSCIOUS SEDATION
Both options are safe and effective. We will discuss which is most suitable for you during our consultation.
GENERAL ANAESTHESIA
You will be completely asleep and unaware during the entire procedure.
Duration: Usually 3 hours
Ideal for more extensive or longer procedures
Complete comfort and no awareness
Airway managed by the anaesthetist for maximum safety
Smooth, controlled recovery in a recovery suite
SEDATION
You will be deeply relaxed and sleepy but may not be completely asleep.
Suitable for selected oculoplastic procedures
Less grogginess on waking
Faster recovery time
Local anaesthetic is used in combination for comfort
Duration: Usually 2 hours
